Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda registered their second win in the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament with a dominant 55-run victory over Sierra Leone at Gahanga Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, June 4, thanks to a stellar performance by Henriette Ishimwe.
Having elected to bat first, Rwanda posted a competitive total of 135 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Ishimwe, who was playing her hundredth match in international cricket, delivered a match-defining knock of 67 runs off 51 balls, showcasing confidence and composure at the crease.
In reply, Sierra Leone struggled to find momentum against the hosts’ disciplined bowling and tight fielding. Despite batting through the full 20 overs, they could only manage 88 runs for 8 wickets.
In other exciting encounters, Uganda delivered a dominant performance in their first match by beating Cameroon by 10 wickets.
Cameroon struggled with the bat and were bowled out for just 42 runs in 19.4 overs. Uganda chased down the modest target in just 4.5 overs without losing a wicket, finishing at 43/0.
Another dramatic clash unfolded between Nigeria and Brazil, where rain played a crucial role, prompting the use of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Nigeria posted 92 runs in their full quota of 20 overs.
However, heavy rain interrupted the second innings, limiting Brazil to just 12 overs. According to the DLS method, Brazil needed 53 runs to win, and they surpassed that mark by reaching 59/4, and the game by 5 runs.
In the only afternoon fixture, Tanzania claimed a close 5-run victory over Malawi in a rain-affected contest. Tanzania had initially set a total of 121 runs but, due to time constraints, Malawi were given a revised target of 66 runs in 9 overs.
Despite their efforts, Malawi could only manage 57 runs, falling short and handing Tanzania the win.
