Rwandan officials visit Hungarian F1 Grand Prix circuit

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe and Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire on Wednesday, May 14, paid a visit to Hungaroring, the home of the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix.

The visit comes months after Rwanda submitted a bid to host a Formula One Grand Prix during the FIA General Assembly held in Kigali in December 2024.

Nduhungirehe told The New Times that the visit to the 4.381km (2.722 miles) motorsport racetrack was done to “learn from Hungary’s experience in organizing an F1 Grand Prix” with Rwanda also preparing to build its own Grand Prix circuit.

Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe and Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire visit to Hungaroring, the home of the Hungarian Formula One on Wednesday, May 14.

The racetrack, which is located in Mogyoród, Pest County, is currently under renovation before it hosts the next edition on August 3.

Nduhungirehe and Mukazayire arrived in Hungary on May 12 for a two-day visit, in which they explored partnerships and cooperation in various sectors, including education, trade and investment, as well as sports.

During the visit, the ministers also met officials from the Hungarian Cycling Federation, and attended the Tour de Hongrie opening during which Mukazayire invited the world to visit Rwanda and witness history when Kigali hosts the 2025 UCI Road World Championship—the first ever to be held in Africa—from September 21-28.
