Africa-Press – Rwanda. Sfaxien Volleyball team’s new signing Valentine Munezero is keen on winning trophies with the club after signing a one-year contract with Tunisia’s top-flight side.

Munezero played for all categories of the national teams including U20s where she won the Silver Medal in Kenya 2018.

“I will do all I can to improve my game after securing a professional contract, I am going there to give my best shot, and hopefully the level of my game will be improved. My dream has always been to play professional volleyball,” Munezero said.

“I will work together with my teammates to continue the club’s tradition of winning. I cannot do much alone, we are going to work together as a team” she added.

Munezero, a regular for the senior national team, becomes the first Rwandan woman to ply her trade in professional volleyball ranks away from home.

National team head coach Paulo de Tarso Miragress said: “It’s just the start for our girls, I believe in the next few years we shall have many who will follow in her footsteps.

“I am glad we have managed to get a couple of professional players in a short time; most of the others are men and now Vava (Munezero) will open the doors for the ladies.”

Munezero was at the peak of her form with remarkable performances that saw her named Best Server in the 2023 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, held in Cameroon in August when Rwanda finished in fourth place.
