Second Division: 10-man Espoir beat Vision FC to go top of Group B

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Espoir FC moved to the summit of Group B in the second division league after Sunday’s crucial 1-0 victory over Vision FC at Rusizi Stadium.

Marcel Lomami’s side went into the game knowing that a win would see them leapfrog Vision FC to the top and they accomplished the mission before their home supporters, even when they were reduced to 10 men.

Espoir dominated possession on their familiar, yet challenging, home pitch but they were unable to find the back of the net as the visitors remained resilient until half time break.

After recess, Lomami made two changes, bringing in Gilbert Munyeshyaka and Noel Mutomona for Adolphe Nsanzingomayijuru and Salim Saleh respectively.

The substitutes made an impact the game as Espoir took control of the match and it was Munyeshyaka who fired a volley into Vision FC’s net in the 62nd minute to put Espoir ahead.

Vision pushed for an equalizer on different occasions Espoir’s defense stood firm and avoided the visitors’ attacking threat.

Espoir played the stoppage time with a man down after midfielder James Ishimwe was sent off for a second bookable offense in the 92nd minute but his team held on to winning the game to lead Group B standings with 32 points, while Vision FC dropped to second with 31 points.

Elsewhere, AS Muhanga beat United Stars 1-0 to narrow the gap to within two points at the top of Group B.
