Seninga warns Etincelles ‘not safe yet’ from relegation

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Etincelles head coach Innocent Seninga has cautioned his players that the battle to avoid relegation from Rwanda Premier League is not over yet despite their comeback draw against APR FC in Kigali.

Hussein Nsabimana and Djabilu Ishimwe were both on the scoresheet in the second half as Etincelles came from 2-0 down to hold APR FC to a 2-2 draw on Sunday at Kigali Pele Stadium, a result that saw Darko Novic and his side lose the top spot to arch rivals Rayon Sports.

It was a hard fought draw which moved the Rubavu-based side to 8th place on the table with 29 points.

Seninga stressed that he wasn’t unfazed after APR went 2-0 and he tactically read the game as his charges made a major comeback with 2 second half goals.

“It was a great game and I am glad we had a draw. After going down 2-0 at half time, I analyzed the game and told my players to move in quick transition. I told them to try and get to the vital zone of APR and we got the two goals,” Seninga told the media after the match.

Etincelles are now five points clear of relegation zone and, prior to their next fixture against table leaders Rayon Sports, Seninga warned his players that they are not safe yet and must take every match seriously.

“Looking at the league table, we are not safe yet. Every point counts and we are going to prepare very well for the game with Rayon.”

Title race goes on

There are six games remaining to decided who, between Rayon Sports and APR, win the league title.

Despite losing the top spot after just one match day, APR head coach Darko Novic said they will fight to the end.

“The season is long and there is ups and downs, there is pressure but we will fight to the end for the league title,” Novic told the press.

“There are still 6 games left and we can come back to the top of the table.”
