Suspended Amissi loses Kiyovu armband over misconduct

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Kiyovu SC have stripped forward Amissi Cedric of the captaincy, accusing him of misconduct during the club’s recent two league matches against Gasogi United and Al-Merreikh.

The decision follows an incident in which the Burundi international threw his armband in front of head coach Francis Haringingo in protest of being substituted during Monday’s 2–0 defeat to Al-Merreikh.

The club said it has lost confidence in the player, describing the gesture as “unacceptable for a team captain.” In addition to losing the armband, the former Rayon Sports star was handed a two-match suspension for his actions.

Amissi was quick to apologise and accepted full responsibility, saying his behaviour resulted from frustration.

“I was in a moment of frustration, nothing more. It was never my intention to disrespect the badge, the fans, my teammates or the management,” he said in an Instagram statement.

“I was angry at myself, not anyone else. But I understand how it looked, and for that, I am truly sorry.”

Amissi, 35, joined Kiyovu SC in August on a one-year deal after being snubbed by former club Rayon Sports after days of trials.
