After an impressive showing in the Conference games of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) held in Pretoria, South Africa, earlier this month, RSSB Tigers have shifted their focus back to the Rwanda Basketball League.
Over the past two weeks, the Rwanda Cup winners topped the Kalahari Conference with a 4–1 record, matching Petro de Luanda’s tally. However, the Tigers secured first place thanks to a head-to-head victory over the Angolan side.
RSSB Tigers (4–1), Petro de Luanda (4–1), Al Ahly Ly (3–2), and Dar City (2–3) secured tickets to the 2026 BAL Playoffs, scheduled to take place from May 22-31 in Kigali while Nairobi City Thunder (2–3) and the Johannesburg Giants (0–5) were eliminated from the competition.
Standout shooting guard Craig Randall II delivered a historic performance, setting a new BAL scoring record with 54 points in a 104–92 win over Dar City. In the same game, the American also broke the record for most three-pointers made, sinking 11 shots from beyond the arc.
Following their return home and a brief rest period, Henry Mwinuka and his Tigers are now preparing for the second round of the domestic league. They will face Inspire Generation Basketball Club on Friday, April 17 at Petit Stade.
“Our players are ready, especially since some of them have been competing at an international level. They will carry that momentum into the league,” Mwinuka told Weekend Sport.
