Africa-Press – Rwanda. Tunisia will host Group A and C of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
The four-day tournament will take place from November 27-30 with eight teams from Group A and C vying for six places in the decisive third round of the African qualifiers.
The governing body for basketball on the continent, FIBA Africa, confirmed that Tunisia will host the first window of World Cup qualifiers for Group A and C.
Rwanda men’s national basketball team was drawn into Group C alongside Nigeria, Guinea, and Tunisia. Group A includes Cameroon, South Sudan, Libya and Cape Verde.
Rwanda secured a spot in the qualifiers as one of the 16 teams that qualified for AfroBasket 2025 which took place in Angola from August from 12-24.
The World Cup qualifiers will take place across six dedicated windows between November 2025 and March 2027. There will be 420 games to enjoy worldwide.
The windows will be in November 2025, February 2026, and July 2026.
The top three teams in each group will advance to the Second Round of the African Qualifiers where they will join three teams from another group.
All teams will carry over the results from the First Round, ensuring every single game has meaning in the Road to Qatar 2027.
In the Second Round, each team will play the three teams coming from the other group in two more tournaments played over two more windows scheduled in August 2026 and February 2027.
At the end of these additional six games per team, the top two teams in each group along with the best third team will qualify to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.
The qualification process follows the FIBA Competition System successfully used for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
The FIBA World Cup 2027 will take place in Qatar.
The draw
Group A: Cameroon, South Sudan, Libya and Cape Verde
Group B: Senegal, DR Congo, Madagascar and Cote d’Ivoire
Group C: Nigeria, Rwanda, Guinea, and Tunisia.
Group D: Mali, Angola, Uganda and Egypt.
