Africa-Press – Rwanda. Kayonza Cycling Club young rider Didier Twagirayezu won the second edition of Rwanda Junior Tour which concluded in Musanze on Sunday, August 17.

Twagirayezu, 17, had taken the yellow jersey after Saturday’s Stage Two, and he held on the maintain his lead till the final stage on Sunday.

He won the race after clocked 5 hours, 50 minutes, and 46 seconds to win the 2025 Rwanda Junior Tour, topping the general classification after the third and final stage held on Sunday, August 17, in Musanze town.

The last stage, which covered 73.2 km across 12 laps in Musanze, concluded the three-day tour that passed through four districts in the Northern Province namely Gasabo, Rulindo, Gakenke, and Musanze. Emmanuel Tuyishimire, who rides for Musanze Cycling Club, won the third stage in 1 hour, 50 minutes, and 48 seconds.

Out of the 33 riders who started the race from Batsinda in Gasabo District, only 28 finished the tour which serves as preparation for longer multi-stage events such as the Tour du Rwanda.

“I am confident after this victory and, as I join the national team squad, I hope to do even better,” said Twagirayezu, who will also represent Rwanda on the U19 national team at the UCI Road World Championship in September.

The Junior Tour victory saw him pocket Rwf 500,000, while first runner-up Jackson Nkurikiyinka from Nyabihu Cycling Club, who finished just one second behind, took home Rwf 300,000. Vianney Niyongira, who finished third overall, 15 seconds of the race winner, bagged Rwf 200,000.
