Uganda basketball team denies being held at Kigali hotel

Africa-PressRwanda. The Ugandan basketball team that is in Rwanda for the ongoing Afro-basket tournament has dismissed reports that they have been denied exit from Park Inn Hotel for failure to clear bills.

The team’s manager Grace Muguli Kwizera told The New Times that the reports are false, noting that they were well taken care of and enjoying local hospitality.

“It is not true. The Government of Rwanda and Federation [basketball] have been exceptional at hospitality. We are not leaving yet, we are going to be here [Kigali] till (September) 6th or 7th. We want to go and visit the Genocide Memorial tomorrow and watch the rest of the games,” Muguli said.

To confirm, it is FERWABA (Rwanda Basketball Federation) that has settled the bill. In case for more info, we’re listening and can discuss more via Direct Message. Thank you

Responding to some of the comments on social media, Raddison Hotels which runs Park Inn Hotel said that the team’s expenses had been settled by Rwanda Basketball Federation.

“It is not factually correct [that the team has been denied exit] as the stay has already been paid and the team has been very much enjoying their stay the past few days…To confirm, it is FERWABA (Rwanda Basketball Federation) that has settled the bill,” the hotel wrote on Twitter.

FERWABA is yet to comment on the matter. The Ugandan team featured in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Thursday evening against Cape Verde where they lost 79:71 in what was a fast-paced game. Cape Verde proceeded to the semi-finals where they are set to play Tunisia on September 4.
