Africa-Press – Rwanda. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Division defeated the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) 2 Division in a friendly football match held at Ubworoherane Studium on Saturday, August 16.

The military football match had ended in a 1-1 draw before the two teams were separated by the penalty shootouts which ended in UPDF’s favour, winning 8-7.

The friendly matches between and Rwanda and Uganda military forces are part of an initiative to build trust, deepen collaboration, and strengthen the good working relations between the two sister nations, according to RDF.

Before the match, both teams participated in a tree-planting activity in Musanze town.

In his post-match speech , Northern Province Governor Maurice Mugabowagahunde congratulated both teams and urged for more unifying matches between both forces.

“Let’s continue to support sports, let’s continue to support African solidarity, and continue to live in harmony with neighbors,” stressed the governor.

Mugabowagahunde further explained that he hopes to see more community-friendly games between Uganda and Rwanda, featuring ordinary citizens in the boarding districts.

“We want more community friendly matches between Uganda and Rwanda like people in Musanze and Ntungamo or Gicumbi with other neighbouring areas from Uganda,” he noted.
