Forward Willy Leandre Onana scored the only goal that made the difference as Rayon Sports beat Bugesera FC 1-0 on Sunday, December 4, in Nyamata to go two points clear at the top of the Rwanda Premier League table.

The Cameroon international scored before half time in a tense clash that Bugesera wanted to win and add the blues to a list of top teams that suffered in Bugesera so far this season, having beaten APR 2-1 in October.

Francis Haringingo’s men weren’t prepared to lose the second game in a row as they looked to quickly respond and get back to winning ways after their shock 2-0 defeat to Musanze last week.

In-form Onana produced an impressive performance which, as a result, saw him net his sixth goal of the season to put the Blues back to the top of the table and remain in control of the title race.

The first half was at a low pace with both teams playing cautiously. Rayon dominated the second half and could have scored at least twice, but their attack was too wasteful before the goal and it’s that Onana goal that ended the match in favor of the visitors.

Elsewhere, Musanze FC thumped Rwamagana City 3-1 at Ubworoherane Stadium to jump to fifth place on the league table where they are separated with fourth-placed APR by goal difference.
