Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR (men) and Police (women) volleyball clubs qualified for the finals of the 2025 Liberation Cup after defeating the reigning champions, Kepler (both men and women), respectively.
The single-match elimination games were held at the Petit Stadium indoor gymnasium on Friday, July 4.
In the men’s category, APR took the first set 25-21 as Kepler started on a slow pace.
Kepler came in the second set looking aggressive and ready to respond after new head coach Jean Patrick Ndaki introduced outside attacker Kathbart Malinga and libero Jules Niyigena in the second set. However, they still lost the set 25-22.
Kepler again regrouped and this time it worked for them as they pulled one set back 25-21 before Paul Akan and new right hitter Abeul Ibrahim proved instrumental in the fourth set which APR won 25-17 to win the game.
“It means a lot, first I thank the teammates, we want to add this liberation cup to other trophies we’ve including the 2024/25 season championship,” said APR captain Prince Kanamugire.
They will now face either Kepler or Rwanda Energy Group in the final.
This third edition of the tournament features the top four clubs in both the women’s and men’s categories: Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Police (women’s and men’s), APR (women’s and men’s), Kepler (women’s and men’s), and Rwanda Energy Group (REG).
In the women’s category, Police WVC dominated Kepler in three-set victory 25-18, 25-20, and 25-12 to qualify for the final where they will face either Rwanda Revenue Authority or APR.
