Africa-Press – Rwanda. Rwanda’s domestic rivals APR and Police go head to head in the opening match of the national women’s volleyball league finals on Friday, May 2, at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium.
The finals, which will be played in a best-of-three series, will decide who will win the championship this season.
APR will be looking to defend the title they won last season in order to return to the African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship.
Both APR and Police participated at the continental volleyball club competition this year but failed to impress.
Their focus has now been shifted to the finals of the domestic league, with the opening game of the three-game series scheduled for Friday.
APR captain, Valentine Munezero said that, despite her team’s unfortunate outcome, the African Volleyball Championship was a learning experience for her and the team in general.
She believes that the upcoming playoffs games against Police will be a chance to prove how much they have learned.
“After the tournament in Nigeria, we had time to rest and refresh, focusing on our match. So, there is no doubt on our side; we are ready to go out there on Friday and compete. We also urge all APR fans to come and support us,” APR captain Valentine Munezero told Weekend Sport.
RRA take on Kepler battle for bronze
Prior to APR vs Police clash at 7 pm, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) will be face Kepler in the third-place match after failing to advance to the finals.
RRA will be playing the third place match without libero Lea Uwimbabazi and right attacker Elizabeth Ijema who are both sidelined through injuries.
Their absence will be a big blow for the tax collectors but club’s captain Olive Nzamukosha believes they can go all the way and win the series.
“We are coping with the injury situation, so right now, the priority for us is to win the games against Kepler, allowing us to secure the third position. So, let’s send this message to our fans: please be there to motivate and support us,” she said.
Playoffs fixtures:
