Africa-Press – Rwanda. APR’s women’s and men’s teams secured their spots in the finals of the 2024/25 national volleyball league playoffs after eliminating Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and Kepler respectively in the semifinals playoffs held at Petit Stade Indoor Gymnasium on Friday.
This feat mirrors their performance in last year’s playoffs, where both army-affiliated squads reached the 2023/24 finals and ultimately claimed the championships in both categories. In the earlier fixture in women’s semifinal playoffs, APR dominated RRA in three straight sets to advance into their second final in a row.
Elia Mutabazi’s RRA came into Friday’s game looking to even the series after losing their first match against APR on tiebreak last week. However, Peter Kamasa’s army side were too tough to break as they went on to win the game easily 24-26, 22-25 and 25-20 and advanced to the finals. In men’s category, APR also saw off last year’s finalists Kepler in three sets to qualify for the finals.
APR claimed the first set 25-22 to take the lead. The second set saw Kepler make adjustments, bringing in five players. However, their star outside hitter, Wickliff Dusenge was substituted before the end of the set, giving APR’s Hakeem Mukaila the opportunity to win the final point, taking it 25-23.
APR claimed the third and decisive set 25-22 to edge out Fidele Nyirimana ‘s side and secure their place in the finals. Semifinals action continues on Saturday, March 22 at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium.
