Africa-Press – Rwanda. Topflight volleyball debutants East African University of Rwanda (EAUR) have tasked new head coach Peter Kamasa to steer them through their maiden appearance in the national volleyball league and other domestic competitions.
Kamasa, a sports journalist for The New Times, is a former volleyball player who played both at college and topflight level before calling time on his career to focus on journalism and coaching.
Having previously coached the likes of Kirehe VC, REG VC, RwandAir VC and RRA VC, Kamasa now eyes a new adventure with the newcomers during which he looks to build confidence and winning mentality among his new group of players ahead of the new season which begins in December.
“I am here to build a strong team and confidence in the young generation. The idea is to make the team perform better in the next season. They have asked me to build a consistent team and finish as high as we possibly can,” he told Times Sport.
“I think we must work on physicality and the technical aspects of the game. I want to play a unique game that has speed in it. I think we can do it because the players I have at my disposal are young.”
EAUR is the tenth club to join the league. Tough challenge awaits them ahead of the forthcoming season with the likes of Gisagara, APR, Kigali Volleyball Club, Kirehe, IPRC-West, IPRC-Ngoma, Police REG, and fellow newcomers Kepler waiting on their wings to rub shoulders.
The University hopes to build a strong team around a mix of students and a small number of professional players.
