Africa-Press – Rwanda. Police VC swept East African University Rwanda (EAUR) 3–0 (25–14, 25–22, 25–22) in the match that closed the sixth round of Rwanda’s men’s Volleyball League at Ste Famille Gymnasium on Saturday, November 22.
Fred Musoni’s men looked sharp on the blocking side which paid amends as their former South Sudanese opposite attacker James Nhial Achille, who joined EAUR on a one-year deal, found no way to cause dangerous attacks.
Police were in total domination as they claimed the first set 25-14. EUR tried to regroup to keep their hopes alive but they found it too tough to stop the Rwandan champions who went on to take the second set 25-22 and the third 25-22.
EAUR has been in shambles since the start of the season. Many thought the club would build on their form last season and perform even better, but their struggles look far from being addressed.
Coach Vincent Dusabimana admitted that pressure is on his shoulders as long the team is in poor form.
“Each win or loss to us strikes a path toward reaching our goals. Yes, my squad made only two big transfers last off-season and they’re helping. But again, we have to work on the chemistry behind our team to see ourselves back,” Dusabimana told Times Sport.
In other fixtures, APR VC swept RP-Ngoma in straight sets (25–12, 25–18, 30–28), while Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) overcame Kirehe VC in four sets (25–14, 24–26, 25–16, 25–16).
It was KVC’s first win of the season while Kirehe VC remain winless, with two rounds remaining to conclude Phase 1.
In women’s league, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and EAUR closed the fifth round with victories. The tax collectors won in four sets (25–19, 20–25, 25–08, 25–17) against RP-Huye, while EAUR dominated Ruhango VC in three sets (25-13, 25-13, 25-14).
