Africa-Press – Senegal. The president of the criminal chamber has decided to retain the Ousmane Sonko-Adji Sarr case, thus rejecting the request for dismissal made by the defense.
Les avocats de la patronne du salon ‘’Sweet beauty’’, Ndèye Khady Ndiaye, ont demandé un renvoi de l’audience, le temps de bien visionner les vidéos contenues dans le dossier. Ils ont aussi plaidé pour le renvoi du jugement, arguant que leur cliente était enceinte.
Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers have also requested the dismissal of the trial.
The Ousmane Sonko-Adji Sarr case is judged in a special hearing on Tuesday before the Criminal Chamber of Dakar.
Adji Sarr who accuses Ousmane Sonko of « repeated rape » and « death threats » arrived wearing a burgundy red dress.
Ndeye Khady Ndiaye, the boss of the « Sweet beauty » salon is also present.
The leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, declared presidential candidate in February 2024, did not show up. His lawyers are there.
He had set preconditions for his presence at the trial, demanding, among other things, respect for his itinerary to go to court, the lifting of the barricades erected around his home in Dakar, at the Cité Keur Gorgui.
Opened on May 16, the trial for alleged rape of opponent Ousmane Sonko had been postponed to May 23, in a special hearing.
The trial had opened without the mayor of Ziguinchor, retired for a few days in this city in southern Senegal of which he is the city councilor.
Ousmane Sonko said he had decided to no longer collaborate with the courts in this politico-judicial affair which has held Senegal in suspense since March 2021 and in the context of which he is accused of « repeated rapes » and « death threats » presumed by a masseuse from Dakar.
Adji Sarr, qui travaillait dans le salon de massage ‘’Sweat Beauty’’, accuse depuis février 2021, le leader de Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, de ‘’viols répétitifs et de menaces de mort’’.
The opponent, mayor of Ziguinchor, and former deputy, under judicial supervision since March 2021, denies the facts and claims to be the target of a “plot” hatched by his political opponents.
The outbreak of this affair had provoked violent demonstrations causing the death of 14 people and numerous destructions in March 2021.
