Africa-Press – Senegal. The holding in Africa (Johannesburg, August 23-24) of the BRICS summit (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) is “a strong signal” for the continent in the path of the diversification of its partners, declared, on Tuesday, Doctor Idrissa Yaya Diandy, teacher-researcher at the Faculty of Economics and Management (FASEG) of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar.

« The summit is being held in Africa this year, is a strong signal to say that, really, our countries can count on this organization. This BRICS Group is an entity that can offer more choices in terms of partnership to developing countries, particularly Senegal in particular, » he said in an interview with APS.

According to the Senegalese academic, the countries that make up the BRICS group are developing partnership prospects at the commercial, technological, health and education levels. “This openness shows that there are prospects that can be exploited in terms of cooperation that can lead to development, co-construction especially for us developing countries,” he explained.

The Senegalese professor says he recognizes the great difference in development between these countries like China and the states of Africa. « What we can say is in almost 20 years of existence, this BRICS group has still succeeded in challenging the world economic order which was characterized by Western domination. Today, it is clear that global geopolitics has been reconfigured through this group,” he said.

He admitted that this BRICS group can « effectively help » its African partners. « If we look at the achievements that have been made over the past two decades, we see that this BRICS group has nevertheless made it possible to improve South-South cooperation through the establishment of a Development Bank, through cooperations that have been developed in the field of technology, health, education. All of this can help restore the balance of economic forces globally,” he said.
