Ziguinchor: installation of a livestock feed manufacturing unit worth 42 million FCFA in Niaguis

Africa-Press – Senegal. The National Network of Development Actors (RENAD) of Senegal has built in Niaguis, in the Ziguinchor region (south), a livestock feed manufacturing unit worth 42 million CFA francs thanks to the support of the Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship (DER), its national coordinator, Eudes Diatta, said on Tuesday.

« This fish feed plant with a capacity of 200 tons/hour and livestock and poultry feed with a capacity of one ton/hour in the borough of Niaguis, is built in the framework of our project + integrated aquaculture complex + », explained the coordinator of RENAD in an interview granted to the APS, after a visit to the facilities of the factory and the 64 aquaculture ponds made in Niaguis, on an area of 2 hectares.

He explained that « RENAD is committed to the promotion and development of agriculture through the exploitation of market gardening areas, the development of fruits and vegetables, the promotion of cereal crops and aquaculture (fish farming, oyster farming, conservation and processing of fish products) ».

« We thought of creating this plant financed by the Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship (DER) to be able to supply our ponds. And, to supply this factory with electricity, we decided to put on our own funds a power line worth 16 million 500 CFA francs and build a mini-borehole to be self-sufficient in water, ”explained the coordinator, pointing out that his network also benefits from the support of the National Aquaculture Agency (ANA).

He indicated that the +integrated aquaculture complex+ project aims at the sustainable development of aquaculture in Casamance, particularly in the communes of Niaguis and Adéane in particular, so as to contribute to the fight against poverty, hunger , rural food insecurity and destruction of the mangrove ecosystem.

“As part of this project, our ambition is to build a total of 320 aquaculture ponds in Niaguis and other localities in Casamance, while installing 10,000 oyster garlands by 2025,” said announced Mr. Diatta.

This complex, he said, “will also include fish ponds integrated with market gardening and other cereal crops such as corn are the by-products that can be used as raw material for the manufacture of fish feed, of poultry and cattle.

« We set up this complex to compensate for illegal emigration and the scarcity of fish in Casamance. It is also a point of orientation for young people who come from university and who have no bearings, » he further argued, indicating the project will generate 81 jobs, 40 of which will be direct.
