La Synergie des organisations de la société civile pour la paix (SOS/Paix) invite les autorités sénégalaises à accorder « des grâces exceptionnelles » aux citoyens détenus pour des délits mineurs et ayant déjà été jugés, et de remettre en liberté les personnes arrêtées pour l’expression de leur opinion ou leur participation à des manifestations.
Speaking on behalf of SOS/Paix, during a press conference, Moundiaye Cissé, one of its leaders, hoped that the country’s authorities would grant « exceptional pardons » to all citizens detained for minor offenses and having already been the subject of a judgment, “in order to calm the very tense political climate” in Senegal.

SOS/PAIX, made up of around twenty organizations, also launched an appeal for “calm” and “respect for the rule of law” towards young people.
Its leaders also invite Senegalese citizens to collect their voting card, which is an “effective means of expressing popular sovereignty”.
SOS/Paix calls on political leaders and political party activists to “adopt responsible behavior” and to “stop the dissemination of messages likely to compromise social stability” in the country.
The grouping of civil society organizations will continue its “mediation” in order to “preserve peace and social cohesion, which make Senegal a democratic model”.
Selon la plateforme des Forces vives du Sénégal F24, qui est constituée de partis politiques, d’organisations syndicales et de la société civile, quelque 1.062 personnes ont été placées en détention « pour leur opinion ou leur appartenance politique ».
Beaucoup d’entre elles ont été arrêtées lors de manifestations interdites par les autorités administratives ou au cours des violences consécutives à la condamnation de l’opposant Ousmane Sonko – lui aussi est placé en détention – à deux ans de prison ferme pour « corruption de la jeunesse », dans le procès pour viol et menaces de mort que lui a intenté la demoiselle Adji Sarr.
