Africa-Press – Senegal. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage, Habib Léon Ndiaye, underlined, Tuesday, in Dakar, “the scientific relevance” of the pre-symposium opened the same day in view of the symposium international Sédhiou (south), scheduled for October 27 to 29 in the capital of Pakao.
Mr. Ndiaye chaired the official opening of this pre-colloquium on the theme “Sedhiou: history, culture and development”.
This meeting is intended to promote the October symposium, under the aegis of the Association for the development of Sédhiou (ADS). It will be an opportunity to revisit history and culture, which serve as the basis for local development.
« The pre-colloquium that brings us together today is of great scientific relevance and a great opportunity for the emergence project that the Head of State [Macky Sall] is nurturing. It is an event of capital importance since it allows us to revisit the whole cultural history of Sédhiou and by extension of Casamance and Senegambia, » noted the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture.
According to Habib Léon Ndiaye, this pre-colloquium, like the symposium itself, will contribute “skills from all sides, from all countries, to express knowledge in its intimate honesty”.
The participants in this meeting, including Professor Balla Moussa Daffé, worked on two panels, including the one on the theme: « The sacred wood: philosophies, rites and rituals of some Senegambian cultural and religious expressions ».
« Initiation in Mandenka country, an act of education and teaching from the cradle to the grave » is the theme of the second panel of this pre-colloquium which should « highlight the values that have shaped us all and who guide us », according to its coordinator, Moustapha Tambadou.
The symposium scheduled for October thus offers « the means to analyze with lucidity the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing our great and beautiful region for its development », he adds.
