The Director General of the National Bank for Economic Development (BNDE), Dr. Abdoulaye Niane, announced on Saturday the ambition of the financial institution to strengthen its interventions in the agricultural sector. to further support producers in the north of the country.

“We aim to take a greater interest in agriculture in the northern zone where we already have two offices in Saint-Louis and Podor,” Dr. Niane told the press during a meeting with BNDE customers on the sidelines. of the North International Agricultural Fair (FIAN).

« The BNDE already finances a lot of agricultural projects but we are going to forge a partnership with the Agricultural Bank which has much more experience than us in this field », explained the MD of the BNDE on the sidelines of a discussion meeting with agricultural producers on the strategies to be implemented to support the economic development of the Saint-Louis region.

The BNDE has 2,180 customers in Saint-Louis where it has been established since 2015, underlined its director, assuring that the bank has developed an outstanding amount of 7.502 billion Cfa there. The outstanding amount refers to a global amount, at a given moment, of bills discounted by a bank, which have not reached maturity or of credits of any kind owed by a customer.

Its interventions are noted especially in the fields of agriculture, commerce and tourism, through agencies set up in Saint-Louis and Podor.

The BNDE aims to expand its activities in the context of gas and oil exploitation, said Mr. Niane not without saying that the populations should benefit from it.
