Africa-Press – Senegal. Alioune Diop, the current chief of staff of Abdoulaye Wade, was elected secretary general of the departmental federation of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS, opposition) in Podor (Saint-Louis, north), announced Thursday to the local press Abou Sidy Ba, one of the local leaders of the said political group.
Mr. Diop replaces Moussa Sow. The latter resigned from the PDS several years ago and joined the ruling party, the Alliance for the Republic (APR). He currently directs PUMA, the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Axes and Territories.
Abdoulaye Racine Kane, former chief of staff to Karim Wade, was elected president of the PDS departmental federation of Podor, according to Abou Sidy Ba, who spoke to the press at the end of a closed-door general assembly.
Mr. Kane replaces Amadou Kane Diallo, a former director general of the Senegalese Shippers’ Council, who also joined the APR.
Representatives of the 22 municipal sections members of the PDS federation of Podor took part in the renewal of this body of the former ruling party, according to Mr. Ba.
“The work was supervised by a political commissioner appointed by the party,” he said, adding: “We renewed our efforts in a fraternal spirit, and consensus prevailed.”
“I am delighted with the work done by Podor activists,” said political commissioner Maïmouna Cissokho, after supervising the general assembly for the renewal of the departmental federation. “Podor showed the way forward,” said Ms. Cissokho. In many localities, differences have delayed the renewal of our party’s authorities,” she observed.
The party of the former President of the Republic, Abdoulaye Wade, has begun the renewal of its authorities.
The liberal group founded in 1974 has not renewed its structures for several years.
