SENEGAL-POLITICS / Presidential 2024: the PIT invites its allies to work on a single BBY candidacy

Africa-Press – Senegal. The Party for Independence and Labor (PIT, presidential movement) invited Sunday, in Dakar, its allies of the Bennoo Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) coalition to work on a single candidacy based on a “viable, well-negotiated and well-defined program” in view of the presidential election of February 25, 2024.

« Faithful to its strategy of mobilizing a large gathering of republican, democratic and secular forces, the PIT reaffirms its anchoring in the BBY coalition. Our party calls for a broad and inclusive consultation for the designation of a single BBY candidate on the basis of a well-defined and well-negotiated programme, » its spokesman Abdourahmane Ndiaye said on Sunday.

Mr. Ndiaye proceeded to the presentation of the resolution report of the PIT on the national and international political context on the sidelines of the restitution of the work of the congress of this formation of the Senegalese left.

The said resolution report was widely adopted by the party congress.

At the end of this congress Samba Sy was reappointed as general secretary of the PIT.

Questioned on a possible candidacy of the President of the Republic Macky Sall, the spokesman of the PIT considers that « this question is not on the agenda insofar as the principal concerned has not taken a decision on the subject ».

He then discussed the evolution of this formation within the presidential coalition where the PIT has held the portfolio of the Ministry of Labor since 2012.

« the PIT has magnified the achievements for the workers as well as the many results achieved by this ministerial department », argued Abdourahmane Ndiaye.

Referring to the political climate at the national level, the Independence and Labor Party invited the public authorities to « guarantee individual and collective freedoms, in particular the right to demonstrate »

The left-wing formation also did not fail to call on the other living forces of the Nation, « in particular the opposition to respect for authority, institutions, laws and regulations of the country ».
