Africa-Press – Senegal. The Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) coalition considers the political dialogue desired by the President of the Republic necessary for “peaceful elections”, especially during the presidential election of 2024.
« It is our duty and our responsibility to invite all political actors […] to respond to the call for dialogue launched by the Head of State to achieve peaceful elections, as is customary in our country. country,” BBY said in a statement given to reporters at a press conference by its spokespersons.
The latter spoke of the need for « all the forces » of the country to « strengthen peace, social stability, security and progress to the great benefit of Senegal ».
« The Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition is delighted, like a large majority of our compatriots, with the call for dialogue launched by the President of the Republic », say the spokespersons of the coalition led by Macky Hall.
Fatoumata Niang Ba, Pape Mahawa Diouf, Seydou Guèye, Moussa Sarr and other BBY officials took part in the meeting.
They argue that « dialogue is one of the most important achievements of our democratic model ».
« Dialogue is a very local tradition, just as tolerance, respect for institutions and the rule of law constitute the bases […] of our living together », underline the spokespersons of BBY.
According to them, the dialogue made it possible to reach “strong consensus” and to municipal, departmental and legislative elections which took place “in complete transparency” in 2022.
Macky Sall called for dialogue between political leaders of the presidential majority and the opposition, in a very tense climate, marked by numerous arrests in the ranks of the opposition.
Those arrested were arrested during demonstrations on the sidelines of the defamation trial between Minister Mame Mbaye Niang, activist of the APR, the political party of Macky Sall, and opponent Ousmane Sonko, mayor of Ziguinchor (south). .
Mr. Sonko says that more than 300 activists from his party, Pastef-Les patriotes, are in detention. He keeps asking for their release. Among them is a leading activist, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the secretary general of Pastef-Les patriotes, also a tax administration official.
