Africa-Press – Senegal. Mobile data internet is temporarily suspended during certain time slots due to the dissemination of hateful and subversive messages in a context of public order disturbances, APS has learned from the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.
In a press release made public on Sunday at midday, the Communication Department informed that the Internet of mobile data is suspended on a « temporary basis in certain localities of the country and on certain time slots ».
The State justifies this decision by disseminating messages of hatred and subversion in a context of disturbances to public order.
Violent demonstrations took place in the Senegalese capital and in other cities in Senegal, including Ziguinchor, following the announcement of the conviction of opponent Ousmane Sonko to two years in prison for « youth corruption ». , in his trial for rape and death threats against Adji Sarr, a former masseuse, employee of a beauty salon in Dakar.
A new death was added to the list of casualties on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 16 since the start of the protests on Thursday, APS learned from the Ministry of the Interior.
In Dakar and Ziguinchor, furious demonstrators have ransacked several public and private buildings over the past three days, including banks, gas stations, shops, among others.
They have, at times and in places, blocked the traffic of several major arteries and set fire to vehicles.
