Africa-Press – Senegal. Senegalese fighters Fama Samassa De Han and Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye won, on Thursday, the bronze medals of kumite (conventional karate combat) among cadets, during the first day of the African championship of cadets, juniors and seniors.
Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye (-63 kg) won the bronze medal by beating his Egyptian opponent in the bronze final. He had lost the semi-final against a Libyan opponent.
As for Fama Samassa De Han, she beat Moroccan Lahwou Safia, in the under 54 kg category, before losing to an Egyptian by senshu (after a tie on points, the first player to score first wins the game) .
Qualified to play the bronze final, she finally won the game for lack of an opponent.
Fallou Ndiaye (cadet) and Ismaila Barry (junior) placed fifth in their respective categories, after both losing in the bronze kata final.
The second day of the African Karate Championship continues on Friday, with the entry into contention of the seniors in individual kata (men and women), in team kata (men and women), in individual men’s kumite, and the parakarate in kata.
