Africa-Press – Senegal. The coach of the Senegal deaf football team, Souleymane Bara Fomba, on Wednesday released a list of 23 players selected for the World Cup scheduled in Malaysia from September 23 to October 7.
« We have completed our fourth training camp. At the end of this internship, we released a list of 23 players, who will defend Senegal at the World Cup, » he said in an interview with APS.
The list is made up of 11 African champion players and 12 new ones.
« We worked for four months and we have more than a month left before going to the competition, » Fomba said.
He draws the attention of the Senegalese authorities to the difficulties the team faced during its internships.
The coach invites them to help him prepare well for the competition.
« We still have difficulties related to the preparation. For four months, we have barely been able to get water. We are also encountering difficulties related to the transport of players, » said Souleymane Bara Fomba.
At the start of the camps, the team had difficulty finding a training ground, he said. “We were able to solve this problem, thanks to the mayor of Dieuppeul-Derklé, who made the municipal stadium of Castor available to us. Its modern pitch allowed us to improve the players », said Fomba.
The published list is made up of players from France and the departments of Dakar, Guédiawaye, Kolda, Louga, Pikine, Rufisque, Thiès and Ziguinchor.
The Lions won the first edition of the African Deaf Championship in September 2021. They beat Mali in the final, 1-0.
Senegal is fifth in the general classification of the last Deaflympics, the Olympic Games reserved for the deaf, which took place from May 1 to 15, 2022, in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
