Africa-Press – Senegal. Senegal’s women’s basketball team will play in group C of the African Women’s Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) 2023 in Rwanda, along with Mali and Uganda, according to the result of the draw made Friday in Maputo (Mozambique) by FIBA-Africa.
The Women’s AfroBasket will take place this year in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 28 to August 6, 2023. Twelve teams will take part in the competition. They are divided into four groups of three.
Defending champions Nigeria are in Group D with Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The host country, Rwanda is housed in Group A with Angola and the eventual winner in the Zone 2/3 qualifiers.
Cameroon and Mozambique are in Group B which will be completed by the invited country which will benefit from the Wild Card (invitation).
The coach of the Senegal women’s basketball team, Moustapha Gaye has announced a list of 19 pre-selected players as part of the preparation for the 28th edition of the Afrobasket.
The players will begin their preparation with an internship from Monday at 10 a.m. at the Marius Ndiaye stadium.
In addition, FIBA-Africa drew lots for the second edition of AfroCan, a men’s competition bringing together African national teams of local players. The tournament is scheduled for July 8-16 in Angola.
Twelve teams also take part in the tournament, which takes place every four years.
Group A will bring together Kenya, Gabon and the eventual winner in the Zone 2/3 playoffs. The host country, Angola will lodge in Group B with Mali and the guest team.
Morocco is in group C with the future winners of the zone 5 and zone 1 playoffs.
Mozambique, defending champions Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon share Group D.
