Africa-Press – Senegal. The draw for the group stages of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will take place on October 12, announced the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in a press release published on Friday.
The members of the CAF Executive Committee met Thursday in Algiers. The meeting was chaired by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
They welcomed, during the meeting, « the progress made in Côte d’Ivoire in the preparations for the CAN » and the « cooperation » and the « commitment » of the Ivorian government to make next AFCON « a total success ».
CAN 2023 will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire in five cities: Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, San-Pédro and Yamoussoukro.
Twenty-four teams will take part in this 34th edition .
Defending champion Senegal and five other nations have already validated their tickets two days before the end of the playoffs scheduled for June and September. These are Burkina Faso, South Africa, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
The Executive Committee has also announced that Côte d’Ivoire will be the next host country for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The organization of the competition, according to CAF, will allow Ivory Coast to test the facilities that will be used for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) Ivory Coast 2023.
