Africa-Press – Senegal. Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scored a brace on Sunday in Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone, becoming, with a total of seven goals, the top scorer of the qualifiers for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, for which one day remains to be played.

The player from Naples (Italian elite), top scorer in Seria A with 26 goals, therefore confirmed his good form at the moment, during the fifth day of the CAN 2023 qualifiers.

Against Sierra Leone, the Italian champion scored twice (19th and 32nd ) . Osimhen, 24, thus contributed to Nigeria’s qualification for the next CAN.

Before the start of the day, the Nigerian striker was five goals away and was co-top scorer with Senegalese Sadio Mané. The Lions striker, who did not score a goal on Saturday in his team’s draw against Benin (1-1), is second in the standings.

Burkinabe Ouattara is third with four goals. The Bournemouth player did not score in the match lost (1-3) on Sunday by his team against Cape Verde. A defeat without consequence, since Burkina Faso had already qualified since the fourth day played in March.

This fifth day continues on Tuesday with the matches: Burundi-Namibia at 1 p.m. GMT (group C), Ethiopia-Malawi at 2 p.m. (group D) and Sudan – Mauritania at 6 p.m. (group I)

The sixth and final day of these qualifiers is scheduled for early September.

CAN 2023 will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire. Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, San-Pédro and Yamoussoukro are the five Ivorian cities that will host this 34th edition .

Twenty-four teams will participate in the competition. The draw for the group stages will take place on October 12.
