Africa-Press – Senegal.
« It is a duty of memory given to a man who greatly contributed to the development of this project to develop football in the locality of Sangalkam », about thirty kilometers from Dakar, explained the initiator of the event, Abdoulaye Gueye.
Salif Diallo, former head of the Sports Department at the Senegalese Press Agency died on October 31 at the age of 53, following an illness.
“His passing has deeply upset me. He worthily represented Senegal and Africa all over the world. He was known worldwide for his professionalism and dynamism. It’s a big loss for everyone,” he said.
Abdoulaye Gueye hopes that this tournament, which is in its first edition, will experience another dimension in the years to come. “Salif deserves even greater honours. I hope that next year we will experience greater success and that other activities can be added to the organization of this tribute,” he said.
Members of Salif Diallo’s family including his big sister, Marième Diallo and his wife, journalist Boury Sock as well as his eldest son attended the competition. Paintings bearing his effigy were given to them.
Four under-15 teams took part in the competition. These are the Hopes of Bambilor, the Casa football academy, the minimal Keur Ndiaye Lô and the Academy of Sangalkam.
“I have been on this project for 10 years. I stopped studying to devote myself solely to my passion for football to serve my community and my country. The project starts in Sangalkam, but we want to extend it throughout the country,” he said.
Lots of shirts and trophies were given to the Espoirs de Bambilor and Académie de Sangalkam teams, the winners of this first edition.
“Salif was his adviser and his confidant. We salute this gesture of homage and the efforts made by Abdoulaye to preserve the memory and the memory of his friend. It is important. We hope that he will be able to perpetuate this tournament and perpetuate this duty of memory that we owe to Salif Diallo”, declared Boury Sock.
« Senegal-potential » is a sports and cultural association (ASC) set up in 2014.
The young Abdoulaye Gueye announced that the next stage of this project will be the release of a clip to “pay tribute once again to Salif Diallo and the Senegalese press”. « I have a strong desire to go to Vélingara (Kolda) to visit Salif’s tomb, » he concluded.
