Africa-Press – Senegal. Olympic Day was celebrated on Saturday in Thiès, with a massive participation of young people who converged on the Maniang Soumaré stadium, APS noted.
On the menu for this meeting of young people, a hike through the city on the theme “Let’s moove”. There were also sports initiation and demonstration workshops in 15 disciplines, educational workshops on the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
Concerning the environmental aspect, a tree planting and the cleaning of the Maniang Soumaré stadium were included in the day’s program.
Ibrahima Wade, general coordinator of the Organizing Committee of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), welcomed this great mobilization of young people as well as administrative authorities, sports authorities, education actors and artists.
« This mobilization, beyond our expectations, shows that Thiès is ready to play its part in the preparation, organization and delivery of the Olympic Games » of the youth that Senegal will host in 2026, said Mr. Wade. , also vice-president of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSS).
Some 1,000 young people have been targeted to take part in this edition of Olympic Day celebrated on June 23 each year. After Kaffrine in 2022, Thiès, a cultural and sporting city, hosted Olympic Day 2023.
This celebration is part of a series of sports activities planned across the country, in line with the Youth Olympic Games in 2026. After Medina Yoro Foula, Pata, Adéane, Ziguinchor and Tambacounda, Thiès and other departments will receive these entertainment.
