The Navétanes movement, these popular sports and recreational activities in the neighborhoods, are an integral part of the national sports policy defined by the public authorities, Prime Minister Amadou Ba said on Saturday at the official opening of the national phases in Kaffrine (center-west).

« The Navétanes movement is an integral part of the sports policy defined by the President of the Republic », said the head of government Amadou Ba, also Minister in charge of Sports.

He presided over the official opening ceremony of the national phases, a football tournament and cultural performances which brings together several football teams from different regions of the country.

Several members of the government, administrative and territorial authorities, associations of women and young people and actors of the sports and associative movement took part in this ceremony of opening of the national phases sponsored by the mayor of Kaffrine Abdoulaye Saydou Sow.

“The national phases are on a large scale. Their regularity and their content occupy an important place in the national sports policy”, continued Amadou Ba, considering that the Navétanes movement contributes “to the social education of the masses”.

« The Navétanes movement is certainly a sports practice, but it is also and above all a cultural practice and services with youth activities and other initiatives in the social education of the masses on the basis of community actions on economic development. and social and volunteering,” Mr. Ba explained.

The head of government made the link between the Navétanes movement and public policies related to youth employment such as the « Xeyu Ndaw Yi » program in the perspective of the organization of the Youth Olympic Games scheduled for 2026 in Senegal.

« For the Youth Olympic Games in 2026, efforts are also being made by the government to strengthen the sports offer and policy, with the recruitment and training of stewards, » he said.

The Prime Minister urged the actors to work so that the activities of the Navétanes movement take place in « sportsmanship, fair play with a view to consolidating the policy of emergence and development, but also to strengthening democracy and rule of law”.

In Kaffrine, Amadou Ba mentioned a national program for the development of sports infrastructure in the regions, for which the government “works in perfect collaboration with local authorities and the private sector”.
