Africa-Press – Senegal. The Senegalese authorities in charge of organizing the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which Senegal will host from October 31 to November 13, 2026, are “very advanced” in preparing for this competition. , assures the general coordinator of these Olympiads.

« Two thousand and twenty-six is ​​looking very good, I can say, in terms of organization and preparation, » said Ibrahima Wade, on the sidelines of the Olympic day celebrated on Saturday in Thiès.

« Les dates des Jeux ont été finalement fixées du 31 octobre au 13 novembre 2026, ce qui fait 14 jours de sport, d’art et de culture », a-t-il dit.

Wade est revenu sur différents aspects de l’organisation, relativement aux infrastructures, au programme sportif, au calendrier, au site d’hébergement des athlètes, le village olympique en l’occurrence. Il a aussi évoqué la restauration, la sécurité et le transport, avant d’ajouter : « Sur ces questions-là, nous sommes très en avance, pour ne pas dire nous sommes à jour sur le calendrier que nous avons fixé avec le Comité international olympique ».

According to Ibrahima Wade, the organization of the YOG 2026 has drawn up « a clear roadmap », conducted « as it should, anticipating » as much as possible on certain dimensions. The Olympic village, for example, is ready, according to him

“We are even working on an extension phase, such as the transport and mobility plan through the TER (Regional Express Train) and the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), which are ready, but which we are going to extend. to Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass,” he said.

According to the general coordinator of the YOG 2026, the organization is « in regular discussion » with the international federations concerning the sports program, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ensure compliance with the requirements of each of the 35 planned disciplines. .

« There remains what must be done with the national and international federations, the coaches, the technicians, to be up to date », summed up Ibrahima Wade, noting that he was chosen to regularly tour Senegal to go to the meeting of young people, vocational training schools and all those involved in sport.
