SENEGAL-ECONOMY / Advocacy for cattle feed to be subsidized "three months before Tabaski"

Africa-Press – Senegal.

“Herders in the region have problems buying cattle feed, because of the high price. We invite the authorities to subsidize it at least once a year, three months before Tabaski, so that the sheep are sold at affordable prices,” he said in an interview with APS.

Without subsidies, « we cannot have sheep within everyone’s reach », underlined the president of the Maison des éleveurs de Matam, especially since livestock feed has come to be expensive, as well as the water supply to farmers.

« At the moment, more than 1,800 sheep have left the region for Dakar » and the needs of the Tabaski festival. « Many are waiting for the last three days to leave the area, » said Mr. Diallo, before inviting his colleagues not to worry too much about the political and social situation in the country, in reference to the violence noted at the beginning June, following the sentencing of opponent Ousmane Sonko to two years in prison for « youth corruption ».

“Peace has returned”, assures the president of the Maison des éleveurs de Matam on this subject.
