Africa-Press – Seychelles. Six sports disciplines removed from Games’ list
Out of the initially-proposed 23 sports disciplines for the 11th Indian Ocean Islands Games 2023 scheduled to take place in Madagascar from August 23 to September 3, six have been removed, including water sports, reducing the total to 17.
The Games’ organising committee has decided to remove archery, taekwondo, basketball 3×3, women’s boxing, yachting, equestrian and surfing.
The 17 disciplines on the programme for the 11th Games are athletics (track and field – handi-sport), badminton, basketball (5×5), boxing, cycling, football, weightlifting, handball, judo, karate, wrestling, swimming, petanque, rugby (7×7), tennis, table tennis, and Volleyball.
It is to note that the Maldives were the initial hosts of the 11th Games, but they withdrew from hosting in January 2021 and were replaced by Madagascar.
