Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Ms Morakot Janemathukorn, paid a courtesy visit on the Minister for the Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Monday 12th May 2025.
Cooperation in the fields of Tourism, in Horticulture between the Seychelles Parks and Garden Authority (SPGA) and its Thai counterpart, and Trade were the main highlights of their discussions.
The two diplomats touched on the possibility of sharing information and capacity building in the field of Tourism between the two countries – a sector in which Thailand excels. Ambassador-designate Janemathukorn suggested collaboration in two specific fields – community tourism, as well as wellness and medical tourism.
Ambassador-designate Janemathukorn expressed her eagerness to connect Seychellois and Thai investors, which would in turn help to broaden and diversify Seychelles’ economy.
They also discussed on Air Connectivity, whereby the lack of direct flights between the two countries was identified as a possible deterrent for exchanges between our two peoples. Minister Radegonde expressed his gratitude for Thailand’s more lenient stance on visas for Seychelles nationals but did also convey his hopes for Seychelles to be part of the countries that do not require a visa to enter the Kingdom of Thailand.
The topic of having an Honorary Consul of Seychelles in the Kingdom of Thailand was also broached on, whereby Ambassador-designate Janemathukorn advised that the procedure to vet the candidate put forward by the Seychelles Government was currently underway.
The meeting ended with the two diplomats agreeing that there were many mutually beneficial areas in which the Republic of Seychelles and the Kingdom of Thailand could collaborate, however, this would be better done through a General Cooperation Agreement (GCA) which would clearly outline the priorities shared by both countries.
Ambassador-designate Janemathukorn was accompanied by the Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Thailand in Seychelles, Ms. Alexandra Benoiton. She will be presenting her Letter of Credence to President Ramkalawan on Tuesday 13th May 2025.
