Africa-Press – Seychelles. A seat at the table: My journey as the 2nd secretary general of AWFISHNET
In March 2025, I was elected as the second secretary general of AWFISHNET – the African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network – an honour that I carry not only as a representative of Seychelles but as a committed advocate for the voices of women in artisanal fisheries across all 54 African countries.
For too long, women in the fisheries sector – despite their overwhelming presence in post-harvest activities, trade, and coastal livelihoods – have been left on the margins of decision-making, leadership, and economic recognition. AWFISHNET was formed in 2017 as a continental response to this reality, building a unified platform to push for change, drive gender-responsive policies, and ensure women are no longer sidelined in the blue economy.
