Airtel Africa has heavily invested and will continue to invest in the Seychelles market which has a huge growth potential and therefore to better serve the local clients and customers, the company is looking for different kinds of future investments it needs to make in the country.
Regional director – Francophone Africa at Airtel Africa – Michael Foley made the statement yesterday at State House, shortly after calling on Vice-President Ahmed Afif who holds the portfolio for communication.
Mr Foley, who is also the board chairman of Airtel Seychelles, was accompanied by the managing director of Airtel Seychelles Amadou Dina. Also present at the meeting was principal secretary for information communication technology Benjamin Choppy.
The good results over the last year, especially the good performance of Airtel Seychelles during the Covid-19 crisis was among the topics of yesterday’s discussion.
Future investment plans of the company, including refurbishing the entire network through the upgrading of every tower, and good usage of the newly set-up underwater cable to reduce the cost of operation and in return pass it on to consumers were among the main topics discussed.
As part of Airtel’s expansion plans, Mr Foley explained that by the end of the year Airtel Seychelles will have 10 of the largest islands covered with Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) service for the first time.
Discussion was also on the One Web project – a planned initial 648-satellite constellation which is in the process of being completed in 2022, with a goal to provide global satellite internet broadband services to people everywhere. This will enable the company to put telecommunication services on the tiniest islands of Seychelles.
