Africa-Press – Seychelles. Asantehene Nana Agyeman Prempeh Memorial Day celebration
A solemn mass was held yesterday at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Victoria, to commemorate His Majesty Asantehene Nana Agyeman Prempeh I of Asante, who was exiled in Seychelles by the British and baptised at this cathedral in 1904.
The service marked the Asantehene Nana Agyeman Prempeh Memorial Day, a tribute to his enduring legacy and the spiritual bond between Ghana and Seychelles. The mass was presided over by Bishop Danny Elizabeth and Father Brian Volcère. Father Brian Volcère described the celebration as both historical and spiritual, recalling how King Prempeh embraced the Anglican faith during his exile. “It was here that he was baptised and confirmed,” he noted, adding that the event symbolically brought his representation back to Seychelles – the place where his faith began.
