Africa-Press – Seychelles. The ‘Award of Excellence for the Development of the Blue Economy’ as part of the ‘Best Africa Awards’ was presented to the Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on April 23, 2025.
Minister Radegonde, who was recognized in the Coastal and Beach Tourism category, received his award from Ernest Tindo, President of the Pan-African Youth Organization for the Blue Economy (OPJEB) and Commissioner General of the African Youth Forum on the Blue Economy (FOJAEB), during an awards ceremony held at the Novotel Hotel.
In his speech on the occasion, Mr. Tindo noted that this award recognizes Seychelles’ leadership in sustainable tourism and rewards Minister Radegonde for his contribution to achieving the archipelago’s global positioning.
Minister Radegonde stated that it was an honor for him to receive this prestigious award on behalf of Seychelles and that he was proud that his modest contribution to a successful national effort had been recognized at the continental level.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Flavien Joubert, and Ambassador Claude Morel, from the Seychelles side, along with other officials from OPJEB and FOJAEB.
The official ceremony for the Excellence in Sustainable Development Awards took place on April 17 in the city of Tulear, Madagascar, on the sidelines of the second edition of FOJAEB. Due to scheduling constraints, Minister Radegonde was unable to attend this event, and it was decided that his award will be presented to him during his next visit to Antananarivo, which also happens to be the 5th IOC Summit.
It should be noted that FOJAEB is recognized by the United Nations as an activity of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Development. President Wavel Ramkalawan is one of the patrons of the Ocean Decade Alliance, the high-level body of this Decade.
