Africa-Press – Seychelles. October being ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ saw many activities to raise awareness about this illness as well as show solidarity with patients and their families across the country.

If the ‘Annual Breast Cancer Beach Walk’ was a success on Mahé, the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Praise and Worship’ was no exception on Praslin.

Over 50 participants dressed in pink turned up for the walk which started at the Grand Anse clinic and ended at the St Mathew’s Church. Although a short walk, it was a very emotional one as participants, which included a good number of patients themselves and cancer survivors, walked silently in prayer and reflection.

At the church, a ‘Praise and Worship’ was on schedule as well as a sharing about breast cancer screening by nurse Sylvie Bellard. A very interactive sharing which saw a good participation from the congregation.

Mrs Bellard shared the importance of regular screening, early detection and support for cancer patients.

She called on all present to be mindful of their general health, diet and the importance of exercising.

She also called on the ladies present to share cancer related facts to their partners and male colleagues as only two men were present for the event.

A candle of hope was then lit by each individual in prayer for the patients and a sign of remembrance for those who have lost the battle.

Tasiana Bossy, chairperson of the Cancer Concern Association (CCA) Praslin branch, thanked all those present and called on their support to encourage and support others who find themselves fighting cancer.

“Cancer treatment is a very difficult process and it often takes a toll on a family’s emotional stability as well. So let us join hands and see how we can support and uphold one another as one member of the family or colleague go through this ordeal. Let’s pray for one another and keep in mind that the smallest of gesture can do wonders when struggling through such a battle,” Mrs Bossy expressed.
