Africa-Press – Seychelles. The crocodile that starred in the hit film Crocodile Dundee has died, the aquarium where he was homed has announced.
Crocosaurus Cove, in Australia, shared the news in an Instagram post: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Burt, the iconic Saltwater crocodile and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee. Burt passed away peacefully over the weekend, estimated to be over 90 years old, marking the end of an incredible era.”
The post continued: “Burt’s life story is one of strength, resilience, and a personality as bold as the Top End itself. Captured in the 1980s in the Reynolds River, Burt became one of the most recognised crocodiles in the world, appearing in Crocodile Dundee and helping to shape Australia’s image as a land of rugged natural beauty and awe-inspiring wildlife.”
The film centres on a New York journalist, played by Linda Kozlowski, who makes her way to outback Australia in search of an infamous crocodile hunter, Mick Dundee, played by Paul Hogan.
Burt was homed at Crocosaurus Cove in 2008 and became a “fierce and fascinating ambassador for crocodile education”. He was described as a “confirmed bachelor” with a fiery temperament that earned him the respect of his caretakers and visitors.
“Burt was truly one of a kind. He wasn’t just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures.”
The aquarium said it would erect a commemorative sign to honour Burt’s legacy.

In 2016, Burt predicted Minister Malcolm Turnbull would win the national elections, according to AFP.
“He tends to have a think about these decisions,” James Robinson of Crocosaurus Cove in the northern city of Darwin, where Burt livds, told the publication at the time. Images of the two leaders – Turnball and Bill Shorten – were hung off ropes above a pool where the crocodile was swimming, with a chunk of fish attached below each photo.
“It took him about six minutes to pick his winner, taking a couple of snaps at each one beforehand, before actually deciding that, ‘yup, I’m gonna pull down Malcolm Turnbull’s picture’.”
Turnball did, in fact, win and was prime minister between 2015 and 2018.
