Africa-Press – Seychelles. President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 6th July at which a number of policy and legal memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved a proposal to revise the Seed Capital Grant. The Seed Capital Grant that was being administered by Enterprise Seychelles Agency is aimed at supporting new entrepreneurs with a start-up capital. At this time where Government is encouraging citizens to be innovative in order to increase their income, Cabinet confirmed the importance of the Scheme to support business innovation and growth. The revised Scheme will support business development ideas in priority areas for the country. Recipients of the grant will need to follow business management training and will be closely monitored to ensure accountability of the funds allocated to their business development. Cabinet requested that transparency and accountability be strong guiding values in administration of the Scheme.
Cabinet was updated on the work done for the establishment of the Integrated Emergency Management and Coordination System (IEMCS). Cabinet emphasised the need for all agencies to collaborate to ensure effective and efficient management and coordination of emergencies.
Cabinet approved for the decentralisation of civil marriages of foreigners. Interested Seychellois citizens will be able to apply to become private marriage celebrants. After successfully completing their training they will be certified to celebrate weddings of foreigners.
Cabinet approved for the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) to become a Member of AMFORHT, the World Association for Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training. As a member of AMFORHT, the STA will be able to expand its international visibility, improve its training packages and allow for exchange of expertise in the tourism and hospitality field.
Cabinet conveyed its congratulations to the National Day Celebrations Committee for a successful parade and related events.
Cabinet also raised concerns about the number of crimes happening recently in the country involving young people.
Cabinet recognized the excellent results of students in the last international examinations. Cabinet commended them for their hard work and congratulated them for their success.
Cabinet noted the passing away of Mr Antonio Constance. Mr Constance was a strong contributor in the field of environment in Seychelles. Cabinet also conveyed its condolence to the Constance family.
