CBS launches Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship for 2023 academic year

Africa-Press – Seychelles. The Central Bank of Seychelles is maintaining its commitment to contribute towards the development of a pool of local professionals in the financial services sector, through the launch of the fourth Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship programme.

Application for the scholarship is now open, until January 31, 2023.

The programme, initiated in 2018, is offering two scholarships – one at undergraduate level and one at postgraduate level – to citizens of Seychelles with a record of high academic performance.

Eligible fields of studies for the Undergraduate scholarship are Economics, Accounting, Finance, Law and Banking. The fields on offer for postgraduate studies are Financial Technology, Cybersecurity, Financial Journalism, Financial Law, Taxation & Customs Management, Public Finance Management, Anti-Money Laundering & Compliance, Sustainable Finance and Data Analytics.

The range of subjects at postgraduate level has increased again this year, as noted by Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) Second Deputy Governor, Jenifer Sullivan, who chairs the scholarship committee. She said: “This reflects the future trends in the financial sector, where technology is having a big impact through digital transformation, and to cater for ongoing challenges such as climate change that threatens financial stability. Although the process will become more competitive, it is allowing more talented candidates with diverse interests to participate.”

The two fully-funded scholarships target outstanding individuals who want to contribute and make a difference in the local financial services sector. As introduced last year, in addition to A-Level certificate, the Baccalauréat is recognised as an eligible qualification for potential candidates.

Successful awardees will have the option to study with a university of their choice, either on campus or through distance learning and will be able to undertake a paid internship at the CBS while awaiting to begin their studies.

Further information on the 2023 edition of the Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship programme, as well as application guidelines, can be found on the CBS website: www.cbs.sc.
