Africa-Press – Seychelles. A total of R30,900 was collected during the Charity Run organised by the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) and Runners for Charity.
The event took place on Sunday December 11, 2022 at the Roche Caiman fitness trail.
Over 50 participants from Runners for Charity, Seychelles Kyokushin Karate, Seychelles Police, volunteers and staff of the RCSS and individuals turned up for the event.
The theme for the charity was ‘Let us share the spirit of Christmas’, and is aimed at encouraging people to donate either cash or dry food items for the less fortunate in Seychelles during the festive season.
The chairman of Runners for Charity, Joel Melanie, says he is happy with the turnout and believes that such an initiative is very much in line with his organisation’s mandate.
He also notes they are considering organising this event in November instead of December because there are already too many activities taking place at the end of the year.
Mr Melanie and three other members of the association completed the targeted 10 kilometre race.
After the race, representatives of Runners for Charity, the Seychelles Kyokushin Karate, Hunt Deltel and other individuals presented their donations to Michel Simeon, the logistics officer of the RCSS.
The contributions will go towards gift/food hampers for the less fortunate families.
According to Mr Simeon, people have until December 20 to make their contributions, either in cash or kind.
“The National Society is aiming to assist about a hundred families if we get enough donations,” says Mr Simeon.
“We need sufficient time to sort out the donations and deliver before Christmas,” he adds.
