Africa-Press – Seychelles. Fans turned up in droves at Saturday’s charity concert at the Buckinarms Palace nightclub, in Au Cap, in support of local singer Sheila Paul who will soon undergo overseas treatment.

A group of artists and musicians, led by Sheila’s friend and former colleague from duo group Ladylike, Sly, with the help of Mervin Camille and Joseph Sinon, had

brought the team together to raise funds for the singer.

Those who took the stage included Sly and Joseph, Cus Man, Ras Ricky, Jilbert Freminot, Michelle Marengo, Antoinette Dodin, Alderick Bristol, Katty Melanie,

Mayos, Phillip Toussaint, Michel Desnousse and Gatto.

Sheila also graced the event with her presence during the evening, as the artists kept the fans on their feet, performing some of their hit songs as well as renowned songs of Sheila’s late father, Raymond Lebon.

After the event, Sly said the show was a sell-out.

“The club had printed 600 tickets and I was informed by the owner that the tickets were sold out. I am over the moon. As you know all the proceeds from the

show’s ticket sales will go to our sister, friend, and colleague Sheila,” she said.

An emotional Sly said the event was testimony of how singers and musicians can come together in love and solidarity for a good cause. Everyone who took part in

the event had agreed to do it for free. The club’s owner had also provided his venue free of charge.

“I am so overwhelmed and deeply touched right now. I cannot believe that we could pull this in less than two weeks. Everyone, from the singers to the musicians, responded and gave us such a great show and the fans of course heard our call and turned up. We are so grateful to all of them. Everyone was amazing,” she said.

Following the success, the organisers plan to repeat the show on a bigger scale in an outdoor setting, as well as take the show to Praslin and La Digue.

Sheila, 45, is expected to leave the country soon for overseas treatment.
