Africa-Press – Seychelles. ‘Caring for children today is an investment for tomorrow’
“Today June 1, 2022 is a celebration for all children of Seychelles. Let me first and foremost wish all the children of our beautiful island nation a Happy Children’s Day.
“We have the privilege to focus on both the international theme, ‘A better future for every child’ calling on us leaders to honour and celebrate our children and create a better future for them while our national theme to celebrate families ‘Mon Fanmir, Mon Leker’ (‘My Family, My Heart’) reminds us that without love and family there is no existence. Love comes from the heart and children is conceived through love to become part of the family we want to create and co-exist in the bigger society.
“Let us all remember that our children are relying on us to protect, support and love them. Caring for them today is an investment for tomorrow.
“Dear children, today as you celebrate your day, socialise and have fun, be mindful that there are others who are sick in hospital or at home, others who are socially deprived and do not have the same opportunities as you have.
To our most disadvantaged children and those living away from home, those who have lost loved ones closest to them, those who have been abandoned and let down by individuals who were supposed to love and protect them, this message is for you also. You are close to our hearts and remembered today. I wish you well and call on your surrogate parents and adults around you to make this day memorable for you.
“I call on all children to be loving, kind and dare to be audacious, spirited, courageous, motivated and creative and allow your imagination to fly as high as the sky. Above all, be happy in whatever you do. You are as special and important to your parents as you are to our country. Do not be afraid to ask for help when needed; be compassionate and supportive to your peers when they are also in need. Do not be fearful to make mistakes and fall as getting back up will be your greatest victory.
“My ministry along with all partners remain committed to continue to safeguard and uphold your best interest to ensure your wholesome development to achieve your goals and become better leaders of tomorrow.
“I take off my hats to all to parents who are taking great care of their children regardless of life challenges; your tenacity will bring you great reward.
“To all in the society, we have to be concerned about children’s well-being and help them become better citizens as they are the ones who will take care of us when they in turn become adults. Let us make it our duty to help those who are vulnerable and promote their wellbeing.
“I thank everyone for the hard work and devotion to protect our children, our greatest treasures and end with the great Nelson Mandela’s quote ‘There can be no keener revelation of a Society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children’.”
